Cellular and wireless devices

Best Buy adheres to the CRTC Wireless Code of Conduct and consumer rights. Subject to usage restrictions set by carriers, mobile and wireless devices can be returned up to 15 days from the date of your in-store purchase, or 15 days from the date of delivery of your online order. The return period is up to 30 days for anyone who has self-identified as a person with a disability. For more information on CRTC's Wireless Code of Conduct, you can visit the Canadian Wireless Code webpage.

Mobile and wireless devices include mobile phones and smartphones, as well as carrier-activated tablets, mobile hotspots, and handheld devices.

What is Best Buy's return policy?

Fortunately, most electronic items, including smartphones, can probably be returned.

Return periods

For everything except mobile phones and other items that require activation, the return period is 15 days. (For comparison, Amazon's return period is 30 days.) Those items that require activation (phones, tablets, hotspots) must be returned within 14 days of receiving the unit. The big exception to this 14-day return period is Verizon items, which have a 30-day return period.

Large appliances

Large appliances are eligible for return within the standard 15 days, but since they may need to be picked up, there is a special procedure for returning them. If you discover any problems with your appliance within 15 days of purchase, please call 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289) with your order number and you will receive return instructions.

Condition like new

All returns to Best Buy must be made as new. The company reserves the right to deny your return if it has any problems (cracked, dirty, defaced). Clothing cannot have been worn or washed and must still have its tags attached. In other words, don't be too quick to tear the tags off new shirts or hats.

Best Buy Totaltech

Best Buy has a subscription-based service you can join called Totaltech. It costs $199.99 a year and offers extensive benefits. That includes free or discounted Geek Squad support, free shipping, extended warranties, discounted repairs, and a dedicated phone line, among other things. And if you need to return to Best Buy, Totaltech membership extends your return period from 15 to 60 days.
