How to setup name server?!
« on: 2017-04-03, 11:25:19 »
I have few domains on  myserver.com which is also name server,
and I have only one IP address.

I believe I correctly configure mydomain.dnst, this is how does it look in Manage dns:

Code: [Select]
__base__ A - xx.xx.xx.xx

cp A - xx.xx.xx.xx

mail A - xx.xx.xx.xx

ns A - xx.xx.xx.xx

ns1 A - xx.xx.xx.xx

ns2 A - xx.xx.xx.xx

ftp CN - __base__

lists CN - mail

webmail CN - mail

www CN - __base__

myserver.com MX 10 mail.myserver.com
ns1.myserver.com NS - ns1.myserver.com
ns2.myserver.com NS - ns2.myserver.com

__base__ TXT - v=spf1 a mx ~all

_domainkey TXT - t=y; o=-; r=postmaster@myserver...

private._domainkey TXT - v=DKIM1; g=*; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0...

myserver.com is purchased on name.com, and I'm not sure how to setup there?

Do I need to leave they nameservers (ns1.name.com, ns2.name.com, ns3.name.com, ns4.name.com) and  input/add DNS records, similar/same as on my server,
or can I use/somehow "link" to my nameserver.

I understand that for other domains which are on myserver.com, I put on name.com just my nameservers ns1.myserver.com and ns2.myserver.comm and leave dns records empty.

But what for myserver.com which is also buyed on name.com?
Sorry for long post :).
Thank you.

In name.com, you must set 'child nameserver' (assign ns1 and so one to vps ip) and set 'nameserver' (choose nameserver from 'child nameserver' as ns for domain).

@idove : read https://wiki.gandi.net/en/glossary/glue-record. It's a good starting point even though you'll do your changes at name.com (and not at gandi.net).

Basically, you are setting up YOUR OWN DNS SERVER right?
You'll probably call it ns1.myserver.com and ns2.myserver.com and these servers will serve the future DNS lookups for all the domains using these as their name servers. But how does the world know where to find  ns1.myserver.com and ns2.myserver.com? That's where you need to add glue records AT YOUR REGISTRAR :)

Thank you,
is that OK?

Can I add something, change or remove?
Tnx.

P.S.
Nameservers are:
ns1.name.com
ns2.name.com

No. But, use 'Nameservers' and 'NS Registrations'.

Yes, as Mustafa wrote!
C&P from https://www.name.com/support/articles/205934457-Registering-custom-nameservers
How to register custom nameservers
Log in to your Name.com account and click My Account.
Click My Domains on the left in green.
Click the domain name you would like to manage.
Click NS Registration on the left side.
In the Hostname field, enter a prefix, such as NS1. In the IP Address field, enter the IP address that you need the nameserver to point to.
Click the Register New Nameserver button.
Once you have created the nameservers, you can add them to any domain names you own.

Tnx a lot guys.
I did not notice this menu NS registration, I overlooked.

This NS registration I forget to change, so ns1 and ns2 was entered but IP address remains from old server. That was the main reason that on some DNS my domain didn't propagate properly.

Tnx again.
