Mysql consuming much ram

I install kloxo mr on my vps, my vps ram is 1 gb.
Mysql consuming much ram, it almost consumes 420 mb ram.
How we can set mysql to use less ram ?

Run 'sh /script/mysql-convert --engine=myisam'.

i run this script, then i restart mysql and rebooted my vps, but nothing happens.
Still same amount of ram.

Change mysql storage-engine to myisam and add 'skip-innodb' in /etc/my.cnf.

admin please help me with this, whenever I try to access phpmyadmin, i am getting this "PHP 5.3+ is required"

please tell me how to upgrade to php 5.3 or up version ?
