Delta has a 24-hour risk-free cancellation policy. This entitles you to a full refund with no fees if you cancel your flight within the first 24 hours of booking. It gives you a chance to change your mind, which is useful if your plans suddenly change or you made a mistake with your booking.
To get your refund, you will need to have a qualifying e-ticket. This is purchased through the Delta website, or at an official Delta ticket office or airport ticket counter.
Follow the same process above to cancel your reservation on the Delta website. You should receive a full refund automatically issued to the original payment method.
Cancel a refundable ticket²
If you purchased a refundable ticket, you will simply need to cancel your next flight at delta.com.
Then, still in the My Trips area of the website, request the refund. Payment will be issued to your original payment method. You should also be able to see the status of any refund requests here.
Cancel a non-refundable ticket²
Do you have a non-refundable ticket? Unfortunately, if you cancel, you will not be able to receive a refund sent to your original payment method.
But there is some good news. You can still redeem part of the value of your ticket, less cancellation fees (we'll look at these in more detail below). You'll earn an electronic credit that you can use toward a future flight reservation with Delta.
